Have you noticed how impossible it is to stop striving?
Not the big ambitions. The quiet, constant leaning forward that even your consciousness work can’t touch.
I was exploring this with a coach recently. Just the idea of abiding. Resting. And my whole system said two words: I can’t.
Not “I won’t.” Not resistance. More like: this operating system does not have that option.
I’ve leaned forward my entire life. It kept me safe in a childhood where relaxation wasn’t safe.
Sixty years later, it lives in my head as a rule so old it feels like architecture.
That inability to stop striving isn’t a flaw. It’s survival architecture your nervous system built when trust wasn’t safe, and it kept running beneath decades of consciousness work untouched. It doesn’t respond to more practice or deeper meditation. Consciousness-based biological age reversal begins when the body finally gets what it’s never had: belonging so real the lean becomes unnecessary.
Unlearning the lean
You know this pattern.
You might call it being proactive. Staying on top of things.
Always reaching for the next healing, the next practice, the next version of yourself.
That voice underneath? It’s hell to get old. You’ve been like this your whole life. You think one moment is going to rewire sixty years?
That’s the Decline Hijacker. And it’s wrong.
Rewiring the pathway
Dr. Michael Merzenich’s neuroplasticity research at UC San Francisco proved the brain rewires at any age. Ninety-year-olds grow new neurons. A pattern that’s run for decades can update in a single session. Not through force. Through a new experience the nervous system has never had.
My body did something it told me ten minutes earlier it couldn’t do.
Instead of trying harder to stop leaning, I was invited to imagine belonging so vast I couldn’t fall out of it. Not a person who might leave. Not approval that could be withdrawn. Just LOVE connecting me to the stars and everything.
The joy of abiding
My body settled back.
I didn’t make it happen. The lean just wasn’t needed anymore.
Trust arrived. Not as a decision. As a felt experience in my body. The mind that had scanned and monitored for six decades went quiet. Not because I told it to. Because there was nothing left to scan for.
Science measures that as a brain rewriting its own architecture. I experience it as the moment trust finally landed in my bones.
The 3-Minute Youthing Practice: Settle Back
Notice the lean. Where are you reaching forward right now? Your shoulders? Your jaw? Your thoughts already planning the next thing? Don’t fix it. Just feel the direction your system is pointed.
Find belonging that can’t be withdrawn. Not a person. Something so vast you couldn’t fall out of it. The night sky. The ocean. Let yourself be included. Not chosen. Not earned. Included.
Let your body respond. Don’t force the settling. Just notice if something softens. A breath. A release. The mind quieting even slightly. That’s your nervous system rewriting architecture it’s been running since childhood.
This is what Luminaries do. We don’t override our wiring. We give our bodies an experience so true the old pattern rewrites itself.
Your Living Flame, that spark of life force in every living thing, doesn’t need you to lean forward to stay lit. It needs you to trust the ground beneath you.
I go deeper into the neuroscience and the full story behind this shift in today’s video.
